For decades, people have turned to hypnotherapy to help them in all sorts of way, from unearthing and resolving hidden issues from ones past to severe behavior modification. Hypnotherapy has been used with great success in helping people quit smoking, build self-esteem, and learn new subjects and skills. Its no wonder people are turning now to hypnosis to also help them lose weight.Does it work? For some. Hypnosis works on the unconscious mind through the power of suggestion, and the effectiveness with which a person can be hypnotized depends on how receptive the subject is to the experience. Put another way, hypnosis works best for people who come at it with an open mind. How does hypnosis help a person "lose weight" ? The same way it helps modify any behavior, by targeting your habits. It is ones habits that lead to excessive weight gain and obesity, and its a change in those habits, replacing old bad ones with new good ones, that produce the kind of changes that can be sustained. To build new, desirable, and sustainable habits, you must break down all your old associations regarding yourself, your weight, your appearance, food and eating, exercise, etc. and build new, positive and desirable associations. This is where hypnosis can be of tremendous aid. In a hypnotic state, you can more easily overcome those unconscious obstacles that hinder your weight loss efforts. Most people already know full well that proper diet and exercise is the way to lose weight, and yet so many find themselves helpless to do what they know they should be doing. What causes that is usually an unconscious association from our pasts that weve habituated in our everyday lives. These associations become so much a part of us we dont ever think about them, much less question them. But when we remove our conscious mind from the equation, were more easily able to access those deep-seeded assumptions and reprogram them.A person who continually struggles with diet and exercise programs, jumping from one to another as each in turn proves increasingly fruitless is most likely unconsciously resisting their own aims. As long as this condition remains, every attempt this person makes at "weight loss" will be equally counterproductive. Losing weight is a state of mind. A person must be willing to lose weight to lose it not simply be willing to diet and exercise, but deep down willing to lose weight. Success depends on a winning attitude on an unconscious level that permeates everything you do, whatever you do.Hypnosis can help you build a new self-image, allowing you to envision yourself at your future weight. Hypnosis can help approach your weight and weight-loss program from am ore relaxed and stress-free perspective. Hypnosis can help build your optimism, enthusiasm and (most importantly) self-esteem for the task. And hypnosis can help you experience some of the benefits of living at your ideal weight here and now, in the present, even whilst you live in the body in which you currently live. The key to having a successful experience using hypnosis to lose weight is realizing that hypnosis alone wont do it. No amount of hypnosis can replace a healthy and balanced diet and an active lifestyle with a blend of aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Nothing can replace these cornerstones of maintaining a healthy weight, but hypnotherapy can certainly make adopting these new habits easier and more pleasurable, as it can put you in the right frame of mind to reap the benefits of all you do to get your weight loss goals met.
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery employed to remove excess fat from body parts. It is also called lipoplasty, suction lipectomy, liposculpture or fat suction.Generally the fat is removed from thighs, chin, buttocks, lovehandles (abdomen), breasts and stomach for women and chin, waist, breasts and buttocks for men. This surgical procedure is not an alternative to exercise and dieting and should be used only to remove the stubborn fat that does not respond to exercises and diet.Liposuction is not a weight loss method but a method to remove excess fat. 10-15 pounds of fat is removed generally. However, taking out of large amounts of fat can be dangerous at times. There are many types of liposuction performed today like traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction, ultrasound liposuction, superwet liposuction. All these methods employ a cannula (a blunt straw like tube) for suction of fat.Saline water is injected into the space between muscle and fat to separate them. If the amount of saline water is less than the amount of fat to be removed it is called traditional liposuction. If the saline water is 3 to 4 times the volume of fat to be removed it is called tumescent liposuction. Adding extra water assists the surgeon in moving the cannula back and forth to break up the fat cells. However excess water may affect the homeostasis of the body. In super wet liposuction the amount of saline water is the same as the amount of fat to be removed. This is the most popular surgical method used by surgeons. In ultrasonic liposuction the fat is initially liquefied by ultrasound before being suctioned out. However, ultrasound methods are not popular as they sometime lead to necrosis (death of skin) and seromas (collection of yellow fluid in pockets). In all types of liposuction either local anesthesia or general anesthesia is used. The usual anesthetic used is lidocaine. Epinephrine is also used in liposuction to reduce blood loss.To perform liposuction the patient must be over 18 and in good health with elastic skin. If the skin is not sufficiently elastic the excess skin may have to be removed after liposuction. Generally the excess skin is removed from abdomen called abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. This leaves scar marks on the skin.Diabetics and patients on antibiotics are advised not to undergo liposuction. Before operation the patient should not have taken any anticoagulants like warfarin, phenindione etc.If general anesthesia is given the patient has to fast on the night before the operation. If local anesthesia is given there is no requirement of fasting. Smoking and drinking etc should be avoided. The incisions are usually less than an inch. After operation the excess fluid takes days to weeks to drain out. During that time antibiotics and/or pain killers are prescribed.Patient recovery varies from days to 2 months. As with all surgeries there are surgical risks in liposuction too. There are minor risk, up to 0.7%, of side effects like internal organs being scraped, seromas, necrosis, excessive bleeding etc.Liposuction is not a weight loss method and the patient should expect realistic and not dramatic changes in appearance.
Health is the wealth. Due to development in the field of science, we have simplified our day-to-day work with the help of machines. The victim here is our health. Energy spent is less as we can do strenuous tasks by just pressing the button. But we never tried to reduce the intake. This results in excess energy intake. This excess energy is stored in the body in the form of fat. Hence our weight increases so also the susceptibility to various life threatening ailments. If you want remain healthy and live longer fat loss [weight loss] is the only remedy. Our body is composed of water, muscle, bone and other organs. Besides this fat is the other important component of the body. The body fat can be classified as fat that is essential and fat that is for storage. Essential fat as the name suggests is most important component of the body and these fats can be seen in muscles, central nervous system, bone marrow and other organs like liver and kidney. The excess energy intake is converted in to fat and stored in the body as storage fat. Storage fats can be seen under the skin, in the muscle and in specific areas of the body. It is not bad to have some quantity of storage fat in the body. The storage fat functions like insulator [conserves the body temperature], and serves as a source of energy at the time of the poor intake. We must lose this excess fat. This kind of fat loss is must for the healthy normal functioning of the body as we discussed already. While trying for fat loss we should keep in mind that neither too much fat nor too little fat is healthy. Many people who want to reduce their weight may think why should we know about the body fat? And why should we calculate the body fat? The reason for measuring the body fat is that it is the realistic measurement of fitness of our body. Fat loss is nothing but weight loss. Body mass index is an indicator of the health and fitness of the body. The big disadvantage of the body mass index is that it may conclude that you are overweight. But your body fat may be normal. When the body fat is normal, your health is perfect though you are overweight. Hence body fat calculation is the best method to assess your fitness.Like the quantity of the fat, the distribution of the fat is also important factor in determining the fitness of the body. Extra fat stored in the hip region is more harm full than the fat stored in buttocks and thighs. Hence fat loss from the hip region is highly preferable. In most cases if the person loses weight by following a perfect, safe, risk free weight loss or fat loss program, he will lose only body fat not the muscle. At times along with fat loss, some quantity of the muscle also will be lost. However the fat loss will be much more than the muscle loss, which is highly desirable. Some people due urgency and ignorance may follow bad diet and wrong diet pills to reduce weight. Those people will be losing body water instead of body fat. As the result there will not be any fat loss, which is of no use as far as the health and fitness of the person concerned.
Copyright 2006 Jonathan PerezIn my previous article, Why High Protein Diets Won't Help You Lose Weight, I wrote about 1 of the 3 incorrect beliefs that everyone has of protein, thinking that you must eat massive amounts to lose weight and burn fat.I spoke about why it is NOT true that protein is what makes up most of the lean muscle weight on your body.Today, I'm going to write a little about the 2nd myth: that eating high amounts of fats or carbs (as opposed to eating high protein) is going to make you look like a little ball of lard (fat).Let me make one point really clear, if your goal is to "lose weight" and "burn fat" , eating low amounts of fats or carbs IS NOT the way to go!There are many that are under the impression that you can lose weight WITHOUT gaining fat by eating a high protein, low to moderate fat or low to moderate carb diet.Well, I'm here to tell you that it couldn't be further from the truth.Back in the 70's and 80's everyone was on the "low fat" kick.People thought that you had to avoid fats at all costs. That's when all of these "low" or "no fat" products hit the markets, capitalizing on the latest fad. Then, all of a sudden, out of no where, with the re-publication of the Atkins Diet book, in the 90's, and even now, everyone completely made a turn-around and began to make carbs ENEMY #1.Now, it was all fine and dandy to eat fats and high protein, "ohhhh, but stay away from those carbs". Man, are we gullible! What's down-right funny is the fact that whether people were following a low fat diet or low carb diet, everyone still wasn't looking any better.People still weren't reaching their weight loss / burn fat goals!Well, to get right to the point of this matter (since I could write about this for pages and pages), regardless of how you divide your calories, high fat, low fat, high protein, low protein, high carb, low carb, etc., you are NOT going to lose / burn one ounce of fat weight if you dont eat the correct amount of overall caloriesperiod!!!!! You can stuff protein gram after protein gram down your throat, but if you don't give your body enough calories, you aren't going to lose weight. You can go on the lowest carb or fat diet around, but if you are still eating MORE calories than what your body uses per day, you aren't going to burn fat or lose weight.Your body responds to overall CALORIES.Food, regardless of what type, is digested in the stomach, gets converted into a form of ENERGY, gets sent to the bloodstream, gets transferred to the different tissues and organs, where it is then used how your body best sees fit.It isn't the fact that you are eating carbs or eating fats that make people overweight, it's the fact that they are eating too many calories, either per day or per sitting!!!!!If you want to lose weight, you cannot go on a low fat or carb diet.I repeat, you CANNOT. Your body needs those calories. It is impossible to get enough calories and nutrients from just protein to build muscle. Also, it is carbs that gets converted into glucose, which is the ONLY thing that your muscles can use to provide energy to a muscle when it is working out, and is the only substance in the body that pushes water and other nutrients into a muscle, which adds to the volume, size, and weight of a muscle, giving your body that toned, defined look.NOT protein! It is fats that your body uses to line the muscle cells and creates the hormones that help build muscle mass, like testosterone, which also assists processing and burning fatnot protein! In my next article I'll write about the 3rd protein myth that's being spread.
It is a fact that over 75% of people who lose weight put that weight back on within a year and of those who put it back on a further 50% will actually put on more weight than they started with in the first place! How is that for a scary fact? What I am about to tell you will help you to reduce your weight and help you to keep it at a level you are happy with. You will notice I have put the word help in bold text, this is because this is just the start to reducing your weight and it is without doubt the most important gift you could give to your body to help that weight reduction.Do you know what a ph scale is?A ph scale is a measurement guide to acidity and alkalinity. It is a sliding scale from 1 to 14 where 1 is completely acidic and 14 is completely alkaline. This means that 7 is completely neutral, neither acid nor alkali. Why is this so important? Well our bodies are a fine balance between acid and alkali and the optimum level for our bodies to be at is 7.36 which is just slightly alkali. If you are over weight I guarantee that you body is acidic because that is basically what fat is, stored acid that your body has not been able to break down. When you start to get your body back towards the optimum level of 7.36 your body will automatically react to get rid of some of the waste acid it is currently holding on to. But your body needs help to become more alkaline and to get rid of this waste.Fortunately there is a product which is a solution to both of these areas and it is called water thats right water.I am sure that you have heard people say many times you should drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day, do you take any notice?I am guessing that you are now in one of the 3 following categories:1.You have heard people say this and you now do drink this amount of water per day.2.You have heard people say this but you just cant be bothered because it means you will go to the toilet more often.3.You have heard people say this and you just dont believe them.I am here to tell you that you absolutely must drink at least 2 litres (3 would be better but do not exceed 3) of alkalizing water (bottled mineral water preferably) per day. This water will re-alkalize your body therefore giving your body chance to get rid of the excess acid it has been storing and it will help get rid of this waste through your natural systems (again I am not going to graphic on this).I guarantee that if you start to drink at least 2 litres of water per day you will start to feel the effects within a fortnight. But before you rush off to get a glass right now. No actually go get yourself a nice big glass full I will wait for you.Are you back, excellent. There is something else you can do to help your bodys alkali levels and that is to drink green drinks. You can either get these ready made or you can get powders to mix with your water to produce a green drink. Green drinks are made from all natural ingredients that are high in alkali levels which is obviously superb for your body. Search the net for green drinks there are numerous ones out there.I personally drink 2 to 3 litres per day of green drinks and since I started I have found a massive difference to my life.So there you have it, you now know the greatest gift you can give to your body to help you reduce your weight.Graham Nicholls 2006
